Term Definition
A weight-loss system in the form of an adjustable silicone band that is placed around the upper portion of a patient’s stomach. The LAP-BAND is frequently used by bariatric surgeons in gastric banding surgery.
A surgical method in which a surgeon makes a series of tiny incisions across the abdominal region or affected area, and inserts long, fiber-optic surgical instruments inside the patient to perform surgery. Laparoscopic surgeries are often associated with less downtime, faster recovery, fewer complications, and minimal scarring.
