Term Definition
A weight-loss system in the form of an adjustable silicone band that is placed around the upper portion of a patient’s stomach. The REALIZE Band is frequently used by bariatric surgeons during gastric banding.
When used in a bariatric setting, this term describes complete relief from symptoms of a disease or disorder, based on results from medical tests.
A term that refers to a type of weight-loss surgery that restricts how much the patient can eat. Adjustable gastric banding and sleeve gastrectomy are examples of restrictive procedures.
Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery
Another name for gastric bypass surgery; a procedure in which the stomach and upper portion of the small intestine are reconnected to form a Y-shape.
