Michelle has been featured in news articles, on television, and in YouTube videos, and has cultivated numerous corporate allies to keep this movement going well into the future. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, obesity rates for children between the ages of two and five decreased between 2003 and 2012. However, the statistic that one in every three American children is overweight or obese hasn’t changed in 20 years.
Using both the law and some federal regulatory powers, Michelle has worked to combat that statistic, and is working toward making chain restaurants, movie theaters, and take-out pizzerias put nutrition information on menus. This update is the largest for grocery nutrition labeling in 20 years for the Food and Drug Administration.
There are some critics of the Let’s Move program, but Michelle is moving forward to help all children become more active and eat healthier. Learn more about Michelle Obama’s efforts at Reading Eagle.
