Canada.com: Bias Against Obese People Increasing, Study Says

sadlady1According to a recent study reported on by Canada.com, many people were polled on their attitudes toward obese people, and many reported having an overall negative attitude. Over half of the doctors surveyed said that they viewed obese people as "awkward", "unattractive", and "lazy".

This bias against weight is making a big impact in the lives of the obese. The article notes that "obese respondents were 37 times more likely than normal-weight to report employment discrimination" and when obese persons are shown in the media and on TV, they are not happy about their body size and are trying to lose weight (i.e. shows like 'The Biggest Loser').
