5 exercises for men that can enhance sex drive

According to Pete McCall, MS, an exercise physiologist and personal trainer for the American Council on Exercise, exercising between three and four times per week can help improve your sexual health, flexibility, and endurance, while also helping drive weight loss.

Are you a male who suspects that your sex drive is suffering as a result of being overweight or obese? Start doing the following five exercises to get your body in better shape and improve your sex drive.

1. Speed walking

Speed walking, or walking at a brisk pace can help you overcome problems with erectile dysfunction (ED) and sex drive because it helps improve circulation and blood flow by keeping your blood vessels more clear. While most types of aerobic exercise can improve circulation and blood flow, speed walking can be more effective as long as it’s kept intense and vigorous. Plus, vigorous aerobic activity releases endorphins, which can also help boost sexual performance.

2. Strength training

Lifting weights results in increased testosterone production, which naturally helps enhance the male sex drive. Start doing a series of weight-lifting movements such as squats, push-ups, and pull-ups to strengthen your muscles and upper body. Weight lifting can also help increase your stamina when you’re engaging in sexual activity with your partner.

3. Swimming

McCall says that swimming for at least 30 minutes per day, three times per week can significantly increase your stamina and sexual endurance, and is ideal for weight loss, which also helps improve your sex drive. One study in particular found that men who suffered from ED were able to lose 10 percent of their body weight from swimming and overcome sex drive problems as a result.

4. Kegels

Kegels may be more widely recognized as the go-to exercise for women who want to strengthen their pelvic floor muscles, but Kegels can also help men improve their sexual control and endurance as a result of toning the pubococcygeus (PC) muscles. To do Kegel exercises, interrupt the flow of urine when you’re urinating to familiarize yourself with your PC muscles. Then, practice Kegel exercises at any time of day by squeezing and holding your PC muscles for about 10 seconds at a time.

5. Yoga

Yoga can help improve blood flow and flexibility -- both of which can lend a hand in enhancing your sex drive while also spurring weight loss. Enroll yourself in a yoga class, or watch videos at home to learn how to do poses such as the Peacock Pose, Bow Pose, and Shoulder Stand, all of which can help strengthen your pelvic muscles.
