It’s understandable that you want to look your best during the summer months. The hot weather likely has you wearing more revealing clothing, and if you’re going on vacation, you may want to look and feel great as you experience new adventures with friends and family. If you’re already dieting and exercising, or have undergone weight-loss surgery to lose weight, you’re already on the right path. However, if you’re still not where you want to be in terms of weight loss, there are extra steps you can take every day to accelerate your efforts.

Here are five sensible ways to lose weight this summer at an even faster pace.

1. Limit your alcohol intake

The summer season is often accompanied by a fun, relaxing vibe that could have you reaching for an extra cold beer or margarita from time to time. Unfortunately, because it’s a liquid and nutritional information is rarely, if ever, printed on alcohol labels, it can be easy to consume too much alcohol without realizing the effect it has on your weight. Most alcoholic beverages contain high amounts of sugar that can promote weight gain. Cut way back on alcohol this summer and either stop drinking it completely or just limit yourself to one drink per week.

2. Use smaller plates

If you normally eat off plates that are relatively large, switch to using smaller plates. Research shows that those who eat off smaller plates usually serve themselves smaller portions and rarely overeat, and that Americans generally consume 92 percent of all portions they serve themselves. Therefore, if you serve yourself smaller portions on smaller plates, you’ll soon notice that you’re losing more weight.
