The key to my Fall heart. Apple Cider! And when adding a little, just a little, ok maybe a lot of Rum to it, it is the drink Fall dreams are made of.  And even better to share with friends. Now how do we invite friends over during the year of  Covid?  Here are the essentials to stay safe, yet have fun and enjoy some much-needed fellowship:

  1. Firepit - First a source of warmth. A fire pit is a classic, but if you don't,  consider an outdoor heater, a charcoal grill, or even a huge candle. Work with me people it's  2020, haven't we learned to adapt?
  2. Seating - Now I'd love to have comfortable wicker or wooden chair for seating, but again, stumps, benches, or even vintage webbed lawn chairs will work.
  3. Blankets - The rules on blankets are -must be warm, soft, and washable.
  4. Grillable food - I say grillable food because hot dogs and/or bratwurst are our go-to. But a bowl of soup or chili would work too.
  5. And FitFoodie Finds'  Spiked Apple Cider - this is delicious and warm, make sure you make an extra non-alcoholic version for kids and teetotalers.

An there you have it, the best and safest way to head into winter and the holidays with a Fall festival in your own back yard.  Enjoy!

Our Go-To Apple Cider Recipe

We love making homemade apple cider because you really can’t beat the delicious taste of FRESH  cider. And it doesn’t have to be super time-consuming, which is why we created this Instant Pot apple cider recipe. You’ll need the following harvest-y delicious ingredients:

  • Apples
  • Orange
  • Lemon
  • Maple syrup
  • Whole cloves
  • Whole allspice
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Pumpkin spice seasoning
  • Coconut sugar
  • Vanilla bean
  • and water!

When all is said and done, you’ll have a large batch of homemade apple cider whipped up in under an hour.

No Instant Pot?

If you don’t have the time to make this homemade cider, we recommend fresh apple cider from an apple orchard or co-op if you have access to either! Then spike as you see fit (we’ll show you some options below!).

What Do You Spike Cider With?

We recommend spiking apple cider with either whiskey or rum. Whiskey will give your spiked cider a spicier warm taste, while rum will give it a sweeter taste. For a combination of sweet and spicy, we recommend Fireball or another cinnamon whiskey.
