When you’re in an exercise and weight-loss groove, you might get the itch to work out twice per day. Your logic may be that working out twice per day will allow you to lose weight twice as fast. Some will advise against exercising twice per day because it can be counterproductive, which may be true, but only if you don’t eat right, don’t get enough sleep, and run yourself into the ground just for the sake of fitting in two workouts per day. But on the other hand, if you focus on eating the right foods, getting enough sleep, and giving your body the recovery it needs to function at an optimal level, doubling up workouts can indeed lead to accelerated weight loss.

Recommended amount of exercise

Health and fitness experts recommend engaging in moderate exercise for approximately 30 minutes per day, five days per week to maintain a state of overall good health. However, if you’re trying to lose excess weight, experts recommend getting in at least 60 to 90 minutes of moderate exercise five days per week. Working out twice per day can benefit you if you either lack a 60- to 90-minute block of time, or if you want to do more intense workouts within shorter blocks of time.
